Sport Pilot
For those who want to become a pilot but don’t want/need all privileges a Private Pilot has, Sport Pilot License would be a perfect match.
Sport Pilot Limitations including:
• Can carry only one passenger per flight.
• Can fly only during daylight hours.
• Can NOT fly the aircraft above 10,000 feet MSL.
• Can fly ONLY Light Sport Aircraft (LSA). Light Sport Aircrafts are qualified by the overall weight of the aircraft and the performance limitation. Maximum weight allowed for land based LSA is up to 1320 pound and Maximum weight allowed to sea based LSA is up to 1430 pound.
• Maximum airspeed of 120 knots.
Basic requirements including:
• Read, speak, write and understand the English language.
• Must be 17+ years old to obtain Sport Pilot License.
• Minimum of 20 hours total flying time.
• 5 hours (out of the total 20 hours) solo.
• 15 hours (out of the total 20 hours) must be logged with a qualified instructor along side the pilot.
• 2 hours (out of the 15 instructed hours) must be logged as a cross-country flight with a qualified instructor.
• Pass the FAA Sport Pilot written and practical exam.
• NO medical examination needs to be completed before obtaining the license. All that is required is a valid, state issued driver’s license.
